A wonderful article was published PlanetChiropractic.com yesterday about Dr. Suzanne Frye & Dr. Ted Magnuson. Our doctors were invited to take care of the athletes at the Wide Open Volleyball Tournament on Hermosa Beach. The tournament , which feeds the U.S. Open Volleyball Championships featured top Volleyball players from around the world.

For example spondylolisthesis is an injury to the spine where a vertebrae slips forward, creating a stair stepping effect. Usually this occurs in the low back at L-5. The reason so many volleyball players have a ‘Spondy’ is because their height adds leverage to their low back when the fall. Spondy’s can be very painful conditions.
The other very common complaint that volleyball players presented with was upper back pain. This problem comes from not only their height, but also their frequent falls onto the sand. Caught early, before becoming chronic, upper back pain is easy to manage. The other cause of upper back pain is loss of curve in the neck, loss of lordosis.
A big thanks to the organizers of the tournament. it was professionally run. They gave us a wonderful location with VIP views of the play. Their sponsors were extremely kind to us. In particular Zico coconut water kept us, all of the kids and the athletes naturally hydrated all weekend without any of the chemicals and toxins that you find in all the other sports drink.
